Community Changemaker: Claudine Capel, doTerra

March 3, 2017

This International Womens Day we have hand selected a group of local inspirations that have taken a big breath, decided to trust in themselves, work super hard, support others, and above all, follow their hearts!  Claudine's leap of faith came when she was forced to confront her health if she was going to be the best mother and woman that she could be.  This is a common story, people coming to their place of inspiration after reaching critical melting point, but in our society of pressure to do and be and give and go, it so often does take a crash and burn to realise we need to make a BOLD change if we are going to keep going.

Claudine made the decision to choose a different path, and one that led her to greener pastures. Herself, and her family's. She has found her health, her energy, her passion. And she is ready to share it with the world. She is prepared to share her story and her findings to try and help others, others who are also at their critical melting point, but hopefully also others that recognise they need to choose a new path before they reach their all time low.  It is all about making the time to fill your cup!

Hear what Claudine has to say about what led her to making BOLD changes in her life.

Tell us a little bit about who you are, and who is your business.

I am writer and mum of two.  For the last three years I have been on a health journey. After fixing my chronic fatigue syndrome with nutrition, and getting rid of a lifelong case of anxiety I didn’t know I had in the process, I began to live and breathe health solutions.

It has been my passion ever since and I am working on a website which will empower people to find their path through their own health challenges.

One of the health modalities I discovered last year was the healing and transformative power of essential oils. And I have started up a doTERRA business which will run alongside my website.

I will be showcasing my oils at this event.

What made you choose this path?  Was it always in the plans for you or something you kind of fell into?

It was not a choice. I had never been someone who particularly looked after my health, but after suffering with chronic fatigue for a year I had to do something.

Going and finding my own health solutions was simply a matter of survival. I couldn’t look after my child or go to work or live my life.

And the process of making that change, trying all sorts of different specialists and treatments, just became this amazing journey that has completely changed my life.

This years theme is Be Bold For Change. What was your bold moment that convinced you to take the plunge and trust in yourself?

I think it has been a slow realisation over the past year or so- while I have been on maternity leave - that I need to make a business from this passion. Starting the oils business was a big leap for me, and I’m still in the process of learning to trust myself and take further leaps. But I think when that website goes live and my story is out there, there will be no going back.

I’m excited to make it happen as soon as I can.

Making a change and plunging into the unknown can be really daunting. Terrifying even. How did you do it? Both practically, and emotionally?

I think you have to take care of yourself, and make that a daily priority. Self care and self love are the keys to many of our problems in my opinion.

Accept your fears and feelings and acknowledge them, but still forge ahead and make the those changes anyway. It’s scarier to stay stuck!

What motivated you to make the change?

Seeing so many other people in the world who are suffering with health challenges. We are in a mental health crisis and so many people have chronic diseases and problems that our medical system is just not solving for them.

The pressures of being a mum can also be a breeding ground for a health crisis.

But there are answers out there.

And if I can use my writing to help people find them, then it will be worthwhile.

You are a mother too. There is no doubt that the 2 roles of business and family overlap. What came 1st? The kids, or the business?

The kids. It was the journey of being a mum - and the challenges that came with it - that brought about the transformation in me that led to this business.

What difference do you think you have made to your life by choosing this path?

I have realised that to love and nurture my kids, I first need to love and nurture myself. It’s vital to stop the whole house of cards from crashing down. So I’ve had to make it a priority and open my mind to different possibilities to enable me to do this.

What difference do you think you have/can make to others?

Hopefully to empower them. To help them see that huge changes can come about from small actions when you start taking care of yourself.

How can others learn from your story?  What message do you have for them?

You can achieve vibrant health. If you don’t have it now then find other answers, and keep going and going until you get there. You deserve to feel well. You deserve to feel joyful.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us today?

Only that I am grateful to be part of this event. It’s just the beginning for me and it’s great as always to meet the inspiring women in this community.

Claudine has kindly donated a bottle of Wild Orange essential oil to our raffle.  It smells completely devine!  Come down and meet her and hear more about her story and all of our inspirational women this International Women's Day, March 8.
