Be BOLD for Change often means having the courage to face your fears and just give something a go. And at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if it doesn't work.
"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take!"
Peta Sunn, like all of us, is a regular woman, and like some of us is a mum, and she wanted to find a balance for her family and her work. Peta chose to give selling Intimo a go, and she never looked back on that decision. For her, this role ticks all the boxes. It gives her financial freedom, control over her hours, work-life balance, a terrific opportunity to socialise, and she loves her product.
Peta is a wonderful consultant. She is wonderful because she knows her stuff (don't forget to ask her about the awesome quality checks and ethics behind Intimo products. That alone makes you happy to buy), she is honest, (she will not let you buy something that is not right for you), she is helpful (she will help you get as much as you can for the budget you have allowed- even though you will ALWAYS want more), and most important to me, she is NOT pushy.
The business ladies that have been invited to share our International Women's Day have been hand picked for their high standard in their product, but also for their values. Observing Peta, she actually does care about her customer being satisfied with their product and not freaked out that they have over budgeted. Which is exactly why her customers are happy to come back to her.
10% of all sales on our morning will go towards Days for Girls, so bring your purse just in case.
Read on to hear how Intimo given so much to Peta, as a consultant, a mother, a woman and a client.
Tell us a little bit about who you are, and who is your business.
My name is Peta Sunn. I am a wife, a mother of three beautiful children and a business owner. I own my own Intimo Consultancy. I essentially offer a professional, in home, bra fitting service to my clients. I advise my clients what is their correct bra size and which lingerie styles will best suit their bodyshape. Intimo also offer a gorgeous clothing range made from natural fibres, designed to be stylish and comfortable. I love helping woman to build a lingerie and clothing wardrobe that works for them.
What made you choose this path? Was it always in the plans for you or something you kind of fell into?
I was a stay at home mum for 10 years and when my daughter went to school I wanted to start contributing financially again to the family. I wanted something where I could work my own hours and not work during school holidays. I also wanted a job that I would really enjoy doing. I had been buying Intimo at that stage for 5 years and thought that it would work perfectly around the family and it would be lots of fun. I love fashion and enjoy socialising and meeting new people.
This years theme is Be Bold For Change. What was your bold moment that convinced you to take the plunge and trust in yourself?
I had to really push myself out of my comfort zone after being home for 10 years to get back into the workforce. I was really worried I would be a failure. It really took 5 years of thinking about it and another 4 months after my daughter when to school to decide. Like anything I had a few friends say they didn’t think I should do it. But with the support and encouragement of a lot of my family and friends I finally decided to join Intimo.
Making a change and plunging into the unknown can be really daunting. Terrifying even. How did you do it? Both practically, and emotionally?
I actually started at the worst possible time. It was school holidays, we were renovating and I felt way out of my depth. I was scared and had to push myself out of my comfort zone but I was also excited and knew I would give it my all. I set myself a goal, got the required amount of bookings from my family and friends. And tried not to think about it too much and just started.
What motivated you to make the change?
My last child went to school and I wanted something for me. I wanted to help with the family expenses and be able to have some financial independence.
You are a mother too. There is no doubt that the 2 roles of business and family overlap. What came 1st? The kids, or the business?
Mostly my kids. That is why I started my Intimo consultancy in the first place, so I could work around their needs and wants. To be able to drop and pick them up from school, to have school holidays off. Of course business does sometimes come first as you have clients that you need to give great service too and that is also very important to me.
What difference do you think you have made to your life by choosing this path?
My Intimo consultancy has give me so much more than I ever imagined it would. The obvious things are financial freedom and flexible working hours. But it has also given me lots of things I did not expect. Things that are priceless. I have grown as a person. It has given me confidence to be who I am without apologising for it. I used to worry about what people thought of me, now I concentrate on being the best version of myself. I have a fantastic network of woman I work alongside within Intimo. We own our own consultancies but are not alone in business. I have made lots of new friendships with my beautiful clients. I love what I do and I am so happy, I feel I have a great work/life balance. I feel like I am setting a good example for my children.
What difference do you think you have/can make to others?
I love helping woman feel good about themselves. This is massive, as a lot of women don’t feel good about their bodies. Having a well fitted bra can make all the difference and I have often have woman thank me as they have not felt so good about themselves in years. Through our Intimo Aware program we also talk about a lot of woman’s issues during our Appointments such as Breast Checks and Domestic Violence, and also we collect bras for the Uplift Program which supplies pre loved bras to women in thrid world countries, these programs have helped countless woman.
How can others learn from your story? What message do you have for them?
Be happy. If you hate your job then as scary as change might be find something that you think you would like to do. If you are working long hours and your family is not happy then find something that gives you a good work/life balance. Only you can change your reality.
